Kids Entertainment: A Fun & Safe New Year’s Eve Idea

Family NY Eve

Last New Year’s Eve, I took my kids to Times Square in New York City to watch the famous ball drop.I wanted to see the lights and feel the energy of the crowed in the Big Apple as the clock struck midnight on January 1, 2011, and I knew it would be an experience that my children would never forget. As the hours went by and the giant intersection filled with people, however, I realized we were in over our heads – literally. It didn’t take long before the crowds of people started to close in around us, and I suddenly realized that Times Square isn’t the source of kids’ entertainment that I thought it would be.

It can be difficult to find New Year’s Eve plans that everyone in the family can enjoy – especially with kids of varying ages. As a mother, I know how important it is to keep everyone’s interests in mind when it comes to planning a trip in order to make it a successful family vacation. There are very few activities that can simultaneously meet the demands of parents, young kids, and older children – but after a little bit of research and asking around I think I found the perfect solution.

This year, I’m playing it a little safer than last. I booked a weekend getaway to Great Wolf Lodge, an indoor water park in the Poconos. The best part about it – it’s crowd-controlled! Unlike most theme parks and waterparks, Great Wolf isn’t open to the public; rather, the rides and attractions are reserved for people who are booked at the resort. If you are still looking for New Year’s Eve plans that are full of kids’ entertainment (and safe) then you should consider this option too.

Here are some of the perks that indoor waterparks have to offer:

  • Child NY Eve

Warmth. Unlike New York City in December, Great Wolf Lodge is temperature-controlled at 84 degrees. That means you can trade in your mittens, hats, and scarves for bathing suits and flip flops if you choose an indoor water park for your New Year’s celebration.

  • Fun family activities. At indoor waterpark resorts, there are activities for every member of the family. From thrilling slides to story time for the little ones, there are wet and wild adventures as well as dry-land attractions to satisfy everyone’s vacation needs. If you are looking for a place that has endless amounts of kids’ entertainment then take it from me – watching the ball drop on television from the warmth and safety of Great Wolf Lodge is the far better choice.
